oxford?! I have no idea I'm afraid dude... I was too dumb for cambridge, never mind oxford!

well, in ancient jewish tradition, after 6 years of slavery, a slave is set free by his master (exodus 21ish). if he decides, however, that he wants to serve his master, his ear is pierced against a doorpost/door with an awl, and he is to serve his master for life.

anyway, christians believe that Jesus' death set us free from 'slavery to sin', but I've chosen to serve God still, and decided that 'copying' in a sense this tradition was one way in which I wanted to 'symbolise' my decision.

not that it's necessary, or any replacement for actually 'doing' "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself".

(you asked!!)
