kettles

why do kettles make boiling sounds so long before they boil? is it a ploy by kettle-makers to make you think it's faster than it actually is..?

also, today I am the happiest I've ever been, ever

you asked... here's what I said to hayley when she asked

about 2 years ago, my parents told me of a girl my age in Scotland who had in the past year or so come back from living in Africa as a missionary with her family

I didn't know her - and don't know the family either, but my parents knew them from bridal college or something

anyway, this girl (Ruth) had tried to end her life several times, and this was still going on when I heard

(she'd found it hard adjusting to the whole culture/home change etc, as I had - only obviously more extremely!)

I also (having written to her parents) decided to write her letters when I could - just 'talking', not expecting a response or anything, and did this for a while, too (with no response)...

so I decided to pray daily for her (hadn't done this for anyone before) from then on, and did so solidly for a couple of months, then pretty well for a few more months

aaaanyway, in 2006 sometime, I got an email forwarded on via my parents from hers saying she was doing better and was home now etc, which was pretty cool

the other month I also got a belated forward from my parents from her thanking all the people who'd prayed etc

aaaanyway, I emailed her - obviously pleased that she seemed to be doing so well, and got an email back on Friday in which she just sounded....

SO joyful, so full of life, with a focus SO on God again and everything was about His plan for her life - and if He was calling her to overseas mission, and how she's off to uni next year, but currently working in a care home

and it was... yeah, just sounding to joyful, it was incredible

and I 'got happy'

(see, even that doesn't explain it fully, I'm sure)

the end.

Takes a bit to get you cheerful.

I'm usually pretty chuffed when I have a cup of tea.
